Vintage/Antique Pueblo Native American Ceremonial Tablita.16x13"

Description

Tablitas were often part of the headdresses of the dancers portraying the part of kachinas (katsinas) in Pueblo ceremonies and are worn by the women and girls of various pueblos in celebrations and dances.  I have not been able to pinpoint the particular kachina that this one represents, I bought it at an auction of Native American items in the early 80s.   It was made for a person with a narrow head, maybe a child.  Obviously, the tablita fits over the head and is held in place by the strap.   The head opening is rather small, so this one was probably made for a young girl.
Beautiful colors.  Precisely painted.  Rainbirds on the sides in the front, cornstalks on the sides in the back.  Raincloud symbols, rainbow and others.
